Diego Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor and designer who was born in Borgonovo, Bregaglia, Switzerland, on November 15, 1902. He was the younger brother of the renowned sculptor Alberto Giacometti. Diego is best known for his furniture and architectural elements, which are characterized by their organic forms, playful humor, and intricate craftsmanship.

Diego was born into a family of artists. His father, Giovanni Giacometti, was a painter, and his mother, Annetta Stampa, was a poet. Diego’s older brother, Alberto, would go on to become one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century.

Diego showed an early aptitude for art and began sculpting at a young age. He studied with his father and brother, and he also attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva. In 1922, he moved to Paris to join his brother, Alberto.

Collaboration with Alberto

Diego and Alberto worked closely together throughout their careers. Diego was Alberto’s primary assistant, and he often modeled for his brother’s sculptures. He also created a number of sculptures of his own, which were often inspired by Alberto’s work.
