Frédérique Bachellerie Tapestries and Rugs

The Modern Masters Tapestries Gallery proudly presents a collection of stunning tapestries and rugs from Frédérique Bachellerie.

Born to a Hungarian father and a French mother, Frédérique Bachellerie has lived in Paris since 1968. She graduated from the School of Applied Arts at the University of Santiago with a focus on art and textiles.

After moving to France, she joined the Marais workshop, followed by the Saint-Cyr workshop under Pierre Daquin’s direction.

In 1972, she established her own studio, Atelier 3, with Peter Schönwald and Michel Slaghenauffi. Since then, the studio has collaborated with over 100 artists and produced around 800 tapestries.

Alongside commissioned works, Frédérique creates tapestries inspired by her own designs. Her work is characterized by expressive forms and a unique, avant-garde style achieved through the interplay of different materials and colors. Her artistic vision constantly shifts between figuration and abstraction, emphasizing the richness of the materials. Viewing her creations is akin to contemplating bas-reliefs.
