Meet us at the Winter Show 2024

January 19, 2024

The Modern Masters Tapestries Gallery (Boccara Gallery) is pleased to announce its participation to the New York 2024 Winter Show.

Dedicated to the fine and decorative arts, The Winter Show stands as the premier art fair in America, showcasing the expertise of renowned dealers from around the globe. Established in the mid-1950s as a benevolent initiative for East Side House Settlement, the fair quickly solidified its position as the premier event of its kind in the United States. East Side House, a community-based organization serving the Bronx and Northern Manhattan, prioritizes education and technology as avenues to alleviate poverty and foster economic opportunity. All proceeds from The Winter Show ticket sales directly support East Side House’s transformative programs.

The 70th edition of The Winter Show will grace the historic Park Avenue Armory, where a vast collection spanning 5,000 years of craftsmanship will be presented by over 68 internationally acclaimed dealers. This extraordinary showcase will feature an array of masterpieces, from paintings and works on paper to fine furniture and contemporary design, jewelry, and ceramics and glass. Renowned for its stringent vetting process overseen by a committee of 120 experts, The Winter Show exhibitors ensure only works of the highest standards of authenticity and quality grace its walls.

On this occasion, the Modern Masters Tapestries Gallery will present a rare handwoven wool tapestry by Georges Braque, Pélias et Nélée.
This exceptional piece, derived from a composition by one of the most influential figures of 20th-century art, illustrates Braque’s fascination with mythological themes and his enduring commitment to formal harmony. Translated into tapestry under the artist’s supervision, Pélias et Nélée exemplifies the successful dialogue between painting and textile craftsmanship, highlighting the power and poetry of Braque’s late work.

We are honored to share this historical artwork with the public, alongside a curated selection of modern tapestries by major artists of the period.

January 19–28, 2024, at the Park Avenue Armory in New York
